Say hello to our furry little crew! We have 2 dogs and 1 cat. I’ve had our cat, Ella since she was a kitten and has come along with me when I moved in with Brandon. Who at the time only had our older dog, Bruce who is around 7 years old. Together we went and rescued our other dog, Siloh as a puppy. He just turned 2 years old at the end of August.

I’ll start with my girl Ella then we’ll get to the boys later. Ella has been with me through a lot. I had gotten her with my ex as a kitten, growing up with my senior cat, Mistletoe. My ex and I were together for 5 years and just at the end of it, Mistletoe passed away. Leaving Ella all alone. Not only to confuse her more but my ex kept her away from me. It took 4 months for me to find out where she was and plans of taking him to court to get her. When he finally texted me out of the blue asking if I wanted her. I picked her up that evening and although she really hasn’t quite been the same since she’s still a wonderful cat. She greets everyone that comes over, is a wonderful big sister to her human sister and dog brothers. She may act like she hates them but trust me, she loves these dogs. She sits by the back door, screaming for the boys to come back inside. So far she’s been pretty tolerant of Mirabella as well. She is your typical cat sometimes and doesn’t like when you disturb her sleep. But that aside she’s a fantastic feline though!

Now onto the boys. I’ll start with Bruce. He’s a 35lb pure bred American Staffordshire Terrier and is all muscle. Brandons friend rescued him from a trailor full of other pit bulls who were all malnourished but Bruce had been shot in his back leg with a .22 as well. He lived with his friend for awhile until he was probably about 2 and that is when Brandon took him in. Brandon had him for 2 years before we met and really didn’t know too much about dogs. Bruce was still intacted, and still is. Wasn’t on any preventions and most of the time just ran around the neighborhood. Well, being a veterinary technician at the time we met, I took Bruce in with me to work and we did all the things. Vaccines, bloodwork, ear cleaning. And with his bloodwork, we found out he had heartworms. Luckily he was otherwise healthy. We ended up doing a slow kill process with him to treat the heartworms. And within 6 months, he was heartworm negative! Now, Bruce is almost 7 years old and still acts like a puppy. He definitely sleeps more nowadays but he still gets in some play time with his brother. He is a wonderful big brother to miss Mirabella but really doesn’t bother with her anyways. Bruce goose is our big cuddle bug and most importantly our home protector. He always has to be locked up when guest are over because he thinks everyone he doesn’t know is a threat. He really is a sweetheart, he is just extremely protective. He would die for us and I know this in my heart.

Now last but certainly not least! Siloh, our sweet Si Guy. He is definitely my first child. Even though I had Ella since she was a baby too, Siloh is 100% my first child. We have been with him since the day he was born. Brandons former assistant had a pit bull and a catahoula that were unfixed and eventually the catahoula had gotten pregnant. Once the puppies were born we went to see them immediately! Siloh was 1 of 2 runts and looked so small and sick compared to his other 8 brother and sisters. Around 4 weeks old is when the mom started getting aggressive with the pups so they moved the puppies into a shed that was damp and wet. It was just completely filthy. Even though I know it’s best for puppies to stay with mom and siblings until at least 8 weeks, mom wasn’t nursing anymore and thought it would be best we took Siloh home early. So, he came home with us when he was only 4 weeks old. And I am so glad we took him when we did, otherwise he would have died. Within days he wouldn’t eat or drink anything. His pink little nose, wasn‘t pink anymore. I was able to stabilize him over night and brought him into work with me that next morning. The doctor immediately did a parvo Test, knowing it’s a very common virus unvaccinated puppies can get. Waiting the results we placed an IV catheter in his tiny little puppy arm and started the 6 hour long fluids he would be getting that day. Luckily the parvo test was negative but it could still be too early, given how young he is, to show up. He also ended up having hookworms and roundworms so we started treating him for that as well. He had bloody diarrhea which was the main concern for parvo. So we started him on an antibiotic. Treating as if it were parvo in case it was and just was too early to show up positive. The plan was for him to eat a special canned food that would really give him all the nutrients he would need but he was spoiled and would only eat baked chicken and rice. He was doing great! But when Brandon and I went away for a week on a cruise that was pre planned, he took a turn for the worst! He was staying with Brandon’s brother who was able to take him to their local vet. They did some xrays and saw that everything looked okay and figured he was still sick from the worms and told us to follow up with our regular vet when we got home. Even though he did get a handful of different puppy foods and not his chicken and rice while we were gone, he still ended up have another type of internal parasite called coccidia and whipworms. Not to mention the hookworms and roundworms were still there as well. Back to square one with blood diarrhea, not eating or drinking. I was so upset I hated myself for leaving town. I felt if I had kept him on his diet he wouldn’t have fallen backwards so far. They ended up doing another parvo test, which came up negative again. They placed another IV catheter and started IV fluids to be done all day. Until, the power went out. So I ended up having to take him home and do an IV drip myself. He was back on antibiotics and once the diarrhea got better would start the medicine for the parasites. FINALLY! After a few days he started becoming a puppy again. Started eating and drinking and his pink little nose was no longer white. He was getting back to his cute little piglet self. And from then on he just thrived! He grew up to be the silliest, sweetest just goofiest good boy ever. He acts a fool a good amount of the time but he knows just when to cuddle up and give kisses. He also is the best big brother and nanny to miss Mirabella! And oh my goodness she loves him! They definitely have such a wonderful bond, it’s precious to see even at such a young age. Siloh turned 2 years old at the end of August and he surprises me everyday with how stubborn, sassy and insanely smart he is. He understands everything I say to him but only does what I ask him too when he wants to do it. He is an extraordinarily smart dog but his stubbornness outweighs his smartness. He is a wonderful doggo though. We couldn’t have gotten luckier with all 3 of these guys!

Photos below of our crew and some of Siloh and his set up from when he was a sickly little pup. Keep following for updates on the crew and pet advice in general! Stay safe guys!
