About Us
I'm Elizabeth, Mom to this wonderful Mirabella, girl. Dad and my life partner is Brandon. Together we live in Georgia just outside of Atlanta, where we've been since March of 2019. We moved to Georgia from Columbia, SC for Brandons work. Originally from Charlotte, NC myself, I moved to Columbia, SC where Brandon was born and raised, back in 2015. We met in 2017 but didn't start dating until March of 2018. I am a former Veterinary Technician with 6 years of experience but stayed home for 3 years once we had Mirabella. Now that she is in school, I am back working as a vet tech for banfield pet hospital! Brandon works in the Mold industry and has for the last 10 years. He ran a Mold inspection company in South Carolina and was approached by a company here in Georgia, which is why we initially moved here in the first place! He helped build their company for the past four years and is now running is own Mold inspection company himself! We've come a very long way, with some bumps in the road but we are slowly making our way over the hurdles! As for more on us and how little miss Mira came to be, we actually ended getting pregnant just TWO months after moving from South Carolina to Georgia! It was quite the surprise but we were very excited!
At 10 weeks we decided to do the blood test to find the gender out early. I had found out I was pregnant at just 3 or 4 weeks. We were in complete agony having to wait so long to know if we were having a baby girl or a baby boy!
Along with that we did find out that we were 'high risk' for our baby having down syndrome. The practitioner who told us, wouldn't even tell us the gender, instead handed us the envelope for us to look ourselves. She said, 'some parents find it harder to terminate the pregnancy once they know the gender.' Even though we knew nothing about what it meant at the time, we still knew that we were having this baby and this baby would be loved. We were given a referral for a perinatologist for further testing. After that, we never saw that practitioner again. On our drive home, through tears and confusion, we opened the envelope to find out we were going to have a baby GIRL!
We did decide to go ahead and do further testing which did confirm the extra chromosome 21 which is what Down Syndrome is. And we continued to see a perinatologist throughout the pregnancy.
It was all scary and new to us and we were definitely thrown. But once the shock of the diagnoses drifted away, we were filled with such joy and knew that we were gifted such a wonderful gift. Becoming a parent is a gift within itself, but when you get to become a parent to a child with a disability, it's an entirely different type of gift. Only a parent to a child with a disability could truly understand what I mean! We're not very religious, I'll go ahead and tell you that now. I'll say its more of a spiritual thing. But we do feel truly blessed to have been chosen to be her parents!
We were filled with joy to be having a baby girl and at 34 weeks gestation, Mirabella Lamoun Castle was born! Six weeks early on January 8th, 2020 at 7:46am. She rocked it out in the NICU for only ONE week and has kept on rocking since! She reaches new milestones each and every day. and is even in pre-school now! She is one strong, smart, silly little girl and we are so blessed to be her parents. I wanted to start a page where people can follow her journey in hopes to bring awareness to Down Syndrome. Because Down Syndrome most certainly does not mean "Down." So follow along to see all that Mirabella can do! I also have some great, non-medical advice and tips for pet owners. Along with some baby food recipes and tips from when she was a baby. And now, I'm dipping my feet into the fashion blogging world as well, so follow along with me and my journey with that too!
Thank you so much for visiting our page and hope you enjoy!
Elizabeth, Brandon and Mirabella ❤
