Back at the end of March Mirabella had surgery. It thankfully wasn’t anything serious, she had her adenoids shaved down and had something called Supraglottoplasty done. Which is the repair of her Laryngomalacia; a floppy voice box. They also did an ear exam as well. She had fluid in her ears at her last ENT appointment so they wanted to check her ears to see if the fluid was still there and if so they would have placed tubes. But there was no fluid so that wasn’t needed. We will repeat a hearing test at her next check up to see if she passes it or not. And if she still fails then we will discuss earring aids.
It took about 45 minutes from the time they took her back to the time they called us and said they were finished. The doctor came out to the waiting room to go over how the surgery went and all went well. Mira was recovering with one of the nurses while we waiting for them to get us a room. Due to her age they wanted her to stay the night. Once we got to the room we met our nurses and then mira was rolled in. She was still really sleepy but woke up to jump right into my arms and we sat like that for quite sometime. Brandon did have to go to work so after she napped it off and woke up around 4ish we walked around the hospital a bit . She wasn’t really eating or drinking much that first night. She would take pouches and drink water from a cup, not a sippy. And she absolutely did not want lactose free milk. She did have to get Tylenol every 6 hours and ibuprofen every 6 hours altering every 3 hours. So it was a lot for her, and for me. We didn’t get much sleep and once again I had a break down. I don’t do well if I can’t sleep. 😂
Luckily Brandon did come back up after work and after taking care of the dogs and he stayed the night with us so it was nice to not be alone. The next morning though, she woke up much earlier then normal but I felt in better spirits. I ordered her some food and she ate all the French toast. This time I ordered soy milk for her bottle instead of just lactose free. And she downed the whole thing! So they were definitely pleased with that and put the order in for us to be discharged and we were able to go home around 10am the next day after surgery. She did have some pretty severe nasal discharge for several weeks after surgery. In fact it has just recently cleared up. But it was pretty bad for a good bit after. She was up most of the night having trouble breathing because there was so much discharge. Luckily it has since cleared up and she seems to be doing really well. We are still on reflux medication, that we will be on until our follow up which is may 6th! For now though she’s doing really well and has acted like nothing even happened!
